Repeater policy

Guidelines Governing the Conduct and Use of The Utica Amateur Radio Club’s 2m Repeater.

  1. The repeaters will be primarily used for local traffic and is open for ALL Amateur Radio Operators. The primary mode of operation on this repeater will be FM Voice as this is the most generally utilized mode for 2M FM repeaters. To maximize availability of and widest use for the repeater, requests for special operation utilizing other emission modes such as modulated CW for code practice transmissions, etc. must be made to, and approved by the repeater policy committee prior to use.

  2. Control Stations will not discourage anyone from using the repeater.

  3. Conduct on the repeaters should be governed by common sense and courtesy. Don't give a bad impression of our service by making thoughtless or off-color remarks. Instead, set an example which others will be proud to follow. The UARC encourages the use of plain language or, as necessary to shorten communications, commonly used amateur Q-signals such as QSY, QSL, etc.

  4. Business messages are not permitted on the repeaters. If you are not sure if what you are discussing could be construed as business, please consult the trustee.

  5. Use of the word "BREAK" shall be used to designate a HIGH PRIORITY need. In that event, all other stations on the frequency should yield to the breaking station.

  6. All stations will leave a short pause between transmissions for the purpose of allowing other stations to call on the repeater. The repeater is equipped with a reset timer tone. Once the tone is heard, the timer has been reset. There is no need to drop the carrier.

  7. Stations using the repeater are urged to QSY to a simplex frequency whenever possible.

  8. Emergency communications have priority. Other uses of the repeater such as Special Event operation, Traffic Nets, Swap Nets, etc. be used shall be cleared through the Repeater committee and the Repeater Trustee.

  9. In the event of an emergency such as a natural disaster, the Utica Amateur Radio Club and its trustee will yield the use of the repeater to controlled operation with a net control. The station or group in control to be determined.

  10. If you hear stations jamming or interfering do not make any comment. If you can override the interference, continue with your conversation. If you can not continue, sign off the repeater in a normal manner. A audio tape of the interfering station with callsign will help the trustee with an evaluation of the situation.

  11. Identify your station every ten minutes during you QSO and at sign-off, as per FCC regulations. It is not mandatory for you to identify when first coming on the air, however for ease of operation and courtesy to the others on the frequency, please ID when coming on the air.

  12. The Repeater Trustee will have the final say on any repeater operation, since he is the final authority as per the FCC.

  13. Repeater Rules are subject to change per findings and decisions of the repeater policy committee and the Trustee. Users will be notified of changes by a posting on the UARC Web site at www.uticaarc.org
